Winter Grooming Operator

Department: SPR - Outside Operations
Location: Sun Peaks, BC
Position Type: Winter Season

Do you have heavy machine operations experience? We are looking for Grooming operators to join our team for the winter season. The Grooming Operator is responsible for operating the grooming machine safely and efficiently to produce the highest quality skiing, snowboarding, and sliding surfaces possible. This full-time, seasonal position requires overnight shift work and overtime as needed. Compensation Information:

$20.35 - $27.03 per hour

Physical Requirement:

Heavy, work activities involve handling loads more than 20 kg.

This job position requires physical presence at the designated location.

Accountabilities:

  • Arrive at work on time, rested, and ready for the shift (dressed appropriately, wearing proper winter footwear)
  • Groom assigned runs and trails (green to moderate blue runs and roads)
  • Assist with snowmaking duties when required
  • Follow all mountain safety, operating, and maintenance procedures and policies
  • To be familiar with and follow all applicable SUN PEAKS RESORT Standard Operating Guidelines; including pre-start checklists, equipment operation, fueling, shut down procedures and documentation
  • Understand and work towards departmental and resort goals & objectives
  • Attend daily crew briefings, paying close attention to details and instructions
  • To identify and contain fuel and oil leaks immediately per the company EMS policies and Spill Response Plan
  • Fleet grooming with an experienced operator during the first season, Nordic grooming shifts during the second season
  • Undertake tasks other than snowcat operation such as track maintenance, equipment maintenance and cleaning, etc.
  • Complete required documents and forms neatly and accurately every day
  • Communicate any problems or issues immediately to your supervisor so that they can be resolved quickly

Ideal Candidate:

  • Minimum one season of Snowmaking at Sun Peaks (if no previous operator experience)
  • Some earth-moving/farming/turf maintenance equipment operation experience
  • Should be mechanically inclined
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Self-motivated, responsible, open-minded, and willing to learn
  • A good listener, able and willing to follow instructions closely
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to work with others in a robust team environment
  • Able to work night shift and odd hours with overtime when required
  • Excellent night vision
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
