Sun Peaks seeks a dedicated Patrol Educator to join their team permanently. The responsibilities of the Patrol Educator will include a range of tasks, such as morning setup, medical protocols, and sweeps, and they should be able to work independently to identify projects that the patrol team needs to work on. Additionally, the Patrol Educator will join the team in daily on-hill duties and create an ongoing training program for all patrol members, including pre-season training, daily morning sessions, and career development planning.
The educator and the supervisory team will regularly evaluate the patrol team's performance and identify areas that require further training and professional development to improve the program. Moreover, the educator will work closely with the risk management department to develop programs that benefit the company. Finally, the educator will be responsible for accurate documentation and record-keeping of all training activities. Heavy; Work activities involve handling loads more than 20Kg. Predominately in an indoor setting.

Accountabilities:
These professionals often dedicate years to studying their chosen fields, building a specialized and authoritative knowledge of their subjects. They're reliable sources of information in their chosen fields. They may present lectures, review concepts and information, or provide hands-on demonstrations to teach practical skills. They develop lesson plans or program outlines and create presentations, handouts, and other materials. Depending on the setting and subject matter, they may also conduct evaluations or approve certifications.
- Provide the highest possible acceptable standard of pre-hospital care and rescue services for our guests and employees as required by the Company
- Develop and maintain training programs for the patrol department
- Ensure documentation and record of all training activities for the patrol department
- Assist in developing training programs for the Risk Management and OH&S departments
- Work and communicate effectively with other groups such as Kamloops Search and Rescue., BC Ambulance, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Fire Department, EMRT, Canadian Ski Patrol, etc.
- Ensure completion and instruct as required all morning Pre-Opening Mountain Set-Up routes and procedures
- Carry out and instruct Patrol Investigations completely and accurately when required
- Take part in manual lift evacuations when required as directed
- Safely and carefully operate Company vehicles according to policy
- Proper utilization and maintenance of all safety equipment required in the performance of daily activities
- Follow the occupational health and safety regulations as laid out
- Follow the developed Company Standard Operating Guidelines and Policy and Procedures as written
- Proper assessment of risks/hazards and rectification as required to ensure the safety of self/other employees/contractors and guests
- Maintain and care for Company equipment and facilities in an acceptable manner
- Maintain and accurately complete documentation records/logs/daily check sheets/field books/first aid paperwork as directed by the company policies and representatives
- Prompt arrival at work to be ready to go to work at the predetermined time
- Willingly follow the directions assigned by supervisors and managers
- Immediately bring any safety concerns to the attention of Supervisors and managers
- Adhere to company policy as it applies to your job and conduct while at work
- High level of willing participation in all provided training with an acceptable level of proficiency
- Continued responsibility to keep skill levels proficient
- Initiate and participate in appropriate ongoing departmental and company-sponsored training to continue to upgrade patrol-related skills
- Take responsibility for your personal development by taking training that may apply to the development of your career goals
- Be a positive role model and assist other employees and guests of the resort as required
- Work cooperatively with all employees and departments as the need arises
Ideal Candidate:
- Current 80+ hr. First Aid Certificate or EMALB EMR/PCP
- Current CPR-C Certificate
- PEAK Advanced Protocols
- High level of physical fitness free of injury with the ability to carry a pack with first aid gear as well as avalanche gear as necessary, daily
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong dedication to their work with a great desire for the success of the department
- Proven ability to create lesson plans, organize activities, and maintain an organized approach to training
- A keen eye to monitor their student's progress and note changes in behaviours or attitudes
- Excellent critical thinking skills with the ability to answer complex questions and design new lesson plans
- Reasonable Mountain biking and skiing ability
- Previous experience as a patroller at Sun Peaks Resort
- Proven rope rescue skills for difficult belays, extrications, steep slopes, and lift evacuation
- Self-motivated and able to work productively with limited supervision and under the direction of the Patrol Director and Supervisors
- Proven leadership, coaching, team building, training, and motivational skills
- Proficient in the instruction of all areas of patrol work as assigned by the Risk Management and Safety Programs Director, Patrol Director, Assistant Director, and Patrol Supervisors
- Able to and prepared to work outside in all weather conditions
- Strong understanding of ski area Risk Management
- Proficient in the safe operation of snowmobile in all conditions
- Strong toboggan handling/teaching skills in all terrain and snow conditions
- Strong interpersonal skills
